John Murtha (D-PA; Johnstown), Mel Weinburg (the "sting" man) and Howard Criden (a Philadelphia attorney) - in which Murtha states that he isn't interested in the $50000 bribe offered in exchange for his legislative efforts to get two Saudi men admitted to the US, "at this time." Murtha, however, was willing to go along with the scheme, in exchange for Arab investments in businesses in Murtha's district. But, if their relationship worked out, Murtha clearly indicated, he would be interested in money for himself at a later date. Through the totality of the meeting, it is clear that Murtha is thoroughly engaged in the scheme, knows and discusses what is going on, and the overall exchange of bribes for legislative/official activity on the part of all involved. Murtha, one of Congresses most thoroughly corrupt politicos, barely escaped sanctions from the House ethics committee, though six other members of congress were given the heave ho, prosecuted and convicted. Jack Murtha (D-PA) insists that he's happy to help Middle Eastern emissaries separate themselves from their money, "Listen, I need the God-damned money like anybody else does, but this thing may be so sticky that I know it's gonna take a lotta God-damned work." Before he laid the groundwork for a "slow bleed" of US troops in Iraq, Murtha agreed to do business with a fictitious Arab sheik whom Murtha thought was trying to bribe him. Murtha avoided prosecution for his role in the ABSCAM scandal by testifying against other Democrat Congressmen who'd taken the bribes. See more Murtha at jackmurtha.blogspot.com . Most notable was the line-up of speakers. Murtha had professional politicians such as General Wesley Clark, Max Cleland and Bob Kerrey at his rally yesterday. These are individuals with no stake in this fight. The Veterans for Truth had men whose sons have died in Iraq, the father of one of the Pendleton 8 who Congressman Murtha has accused of killing innocent civilians in cold blood, a survivor of the attack on the World Trade Center, and the father of a hero that died on United Flight 93 on 9/11. Unlike Murtha's speakers, these are people who were deeply and personally affected by 9/11 and the War in Iraq, and they are united in their calls for Murtha to be ousted.
