The Steelers were coming off an opening day win over the Cowboys, while Washington lost their opener against the Giants on Monday Night. Washington squeaked by with a 30-29 win, sending Pittsburgh on a six-game losing streak that contributed to a 5-11 record, still the worst record for the Steelers since Chuck Noll's first season in 1969. The Redskins, however, finished 7-9 for the only sub-.500 record during Joe Gibbs' FIRST stint as Redskins head coach. UPDATE (3/11/10): Merlin Olsen has died from mesothelioma at the age of 69.

Merlins Olsen, part of the fearsome foursome of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams who went on to become a famous TV star in the shows Little House on the Prairie and Father Murphy, died today of a rare form of cancer often related to exposure to asbestos. Mr. Olsen, earned a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame, because of his time along side Deacon Jones, Lamar Lunday and Rosey Grier on the Rams defensive line in the 1960's.Rosey Grier was eventually replaced by a right tackle by the name of Roger Brown. Mr. Brown, now owns a well known resturant in downtown Portsmouth, he will be attending Merlin Olson's funeral, he told us he got the news this morning.
